The number one island radio transmits holiday feelings with a varied program, provides information and news about living on the island and is the most popular holiday companion of German speaking tourists.
Das Inselradio broadcasts 24 hours per day at the frequencies FM 95.8 MHz and 99.6 MHz. Das Inselradio is also available online and as a live stream on the website, so fans can tune in worldwide to their favourite radio station.
Already back in 1996 the real estate agent Matthias Kühn founded a German radio station called ’La Ola - Das Urlaubsradio’. It soon became apparent that the demand for news and entertainment programs for the German speaking community was larger than expected. Therefore the broadcasting time of the original four hours was extended to nine hours per day. A professional radio format needed to be created for tourists and residents in order to connect the Majorcan culture with the German culture.
In the beginning, local and international news, weather reports, information about the stock market, event tips as well as music from the 1960s to the 1990s were broadcasted every day between 1:00 pm and 10:00 pm. Later on the format was slightly modified and commercialised.
In the year 2000, the program of Das Inselradio was extended to 24 hours transmission. Since 2001, Mallorca 95.8 - Das Inselradio is the first fully digitalised studio to broadcast from the Balearic Islands. The technically and architecturally designed art glass studio on the Paseo Marítimo in Palma is to symbolise transparency and nearness to the audience. A little later it began to broadcast via Astra satellite and today Das Inselradio can be heard all over Europe.
Today Mallorca 95.8 - Das Inselradio stands for a modern concept of a radio. 'Sunshine feeling, entertainment and information around the island life', determine the daily routine of the broadcasting. You can not only get informed about the weather, but you can also hear news every half an hour from around the world, traffic news and event tips. The music selection essentially consists of English and Spanish titles and a small proportion of German artists.
The operators estimate that they reach from 100,000 to 200,000 listeners every day, depending on the season. Similar to Mallorca Magazin and Mallorca Zeitung, the station has developed an important identification medium for the German speaking community on the island of Majorca.
